Our interaction program

When you request an exchange that involves living and learning alongside local people:

We discuss your specific interests (cultural, linguistic or otherwise) to tailor the experience to you.
We find a suitable host family based on your needs.
You are attached to that host family, who will be informed about your attendance in the Study Tour workshop.
You experience local culture & tradition, take part in cultural diplomacy, build friendships, develop intercultural competence and practise the language.
You also gain valuable local insight and advice.
Every program is designed to strengthen your language skills and deepen your understanding of the native culture and traditions.

We work only with MOE-registered schools and tuition centres, and every host family is visited and interviewed before a student ever arrives. And our local team keeps an emergency line open around the clock.

How an exchange actually works.

Every exchange starts with a local school, not with us. Once your place is confirmed, we build the living and learning around it.

01About the exchange program

Students must first engage and secure a place with a local education institution. Our services and the exchange program begin after that.

A program built on interaction with local people gives you something a hotel can’t: everyday life in a different place. You experience local culture and traditions, take part in cultural diplomacy, build friendships, develop intercultural competence and practise a foreign language every day.

You also pick up the local insight and advice that only residents have. The program is designed to strengthen your language skills and deepen your understanding of Singapore’s cultures and traditions.

Please note: house rules such as curfews or limits on using certain facilities may apply, and a family home offers a different level of comfort from a hotel.

02School visit

Two schools, two countries, one shared timetable. School visits help students understand each other’s schools and countries, make friends, and discover the subjects, cultures, traditions and ways of life at each institution.

6+ months

A school exchange needs a lead time of six months or more. This gives us time to arrange the program and obtain the necessary approvals.

Wards, kitchens and kindergartens.

Program request

Visits follow what you study.

To request this program, a candidate must already have studied the field in their home country. We look at the depth of that knowledge first, then take the request to the right centre. So nursing students visit hospitals, and business students go behind the scenes at mega-supermarkets.

Technical visits & internships

We host groups on technical visits to hospitals, kindergartens, senior citizens' homes, mega-supermarkets, cooking schools and other places of interest, so students meet the people doing the job, not just the brochure.

Who has made the trip

More than 50 schools since 2015.

Most come from Japan, and many come back. Toin Gakuen, Hirosaki, Takefu and Miyazaki Ken returned in both 2023 and 2024.

Four days that end on a stage. Students move from ice-breakers and Singaporean desserts to storytelling, vlogging and a final presentation, graduation and certification ceremony.

Students compare what Singapore and Japan are doing on the Sustainable Development Goals, then argue it out in debates and presentations.

03SDG camp
